Ring Alarm Review 2026: Best for Amazon Ecosystem Homes
Last tested: January 15, 2026
Our Verdict
Ring Alarm wins for one audience: people already in the Amazon ecosystem. If you have Echo devices, a Ring doorbell, and Amazon Prime, Ring Alarm integrates more cleanly than any competitor. Alexa voice control, shared clip viewing through the Ring app, and the Ring Protect Plus plan ($20/mo, no-contract) give you a capable system.
The Ring Alarm Pro is the version we recommend over standard Ring Alarm: it includes a built-in eero WiFi router with cellular backup, which solves the system’s biggest weakness (WiFi-only monitoring).
The Cellular Backup Reality
Standard Ring Alarm (8-piece, $249) runs on WiFi only unless you pay for Ring Protect Plus ($20/mo). The Plus plan includes cellular backup — this is not clearly advertised on the product page. If you buy the Basic plan ($10/mo), you get monitoring but no cellular backup. In a real break-in where an intruder cuts your internet, WiFi-only Ring Alarm goes offline.
Our recommendation: Always buy Ring Protect Plus ($20/mo) or go with Ring Alarm Pro ($249.99, which bundles the eero router and includes cellular in the $20/mo Ring Protect Pro plan).
Amazon / Privacy Trade-offs
Ring’s partnership with law enforcement has generated controversy. Ring historically provided footage to police departments without user consent before updating its policy in 2022. The “Neighbors” app shares location-tagged crime reports. This is worth knowing before you install Ring cameras that face public areas.
If this concerns you: SimpliSafe’s monitoring is handled by Alarm.com (a specialist, not a consumer tech platform). Abode uses a similar structure. Neither has the same law-enforcement integration history.
Smart Home Integration
Ring integrates natively with:
- Amazon Alexa (arm/disarm by voice, view camera feeds on Echo Show)
- Google Assistant (limited — arm/disarm only)
- No Apple HomeKit support (use Abode if you’re in the Apple ecosystem)
